Conservatory Lighting: The Lighting Concept for the Cold Season

Outside, the snow is falling, the wind is whistling or the rain is pattering against the glass. You sit relaxed in your conservatory and listen to the sounds. A hot cup of tea, cocoa or mulled wine steams in your hand - the perfect way to get in the mood for Christmas.

What also creates an atmospheric mood in your conservatory outside the festive season is the right lighting concept! After all, a conservatory combines a cosy, sheltered home with a feeling of freedom and nature. We tell you what you need for this!

Lighting for your Conservatory

Our ideas for your conservatory lighting will not only keep your feet warm, but above all create a cosy, homely atmosphere in your glass extension.

  • Downlights and Spotlights
  • Ceiling Fans for the Conservatory
  • Ceiling and Wall Lighting
  • Additional Light Sources
  • Outdoor Lighting

Dreamy Lighting with LED Down and Spotlights

LED lights are particularly suitable for conservatory lighting because they are available in all imaginable colours and set colourful accents. Use the warm light of yellow and red LED luminaires to make your conservatory look sunlit.

If you want to focus on certain areas in your conservatory, you can install downlights and spotlights. To do this, the roof should not be completely glass.

Recessed spotlights are particularly suitable if you do not want opulent ceiling lighting but prefer unobtrusive but efficient luminaires.

Depending on the light colour, downlights and spotlights give your conservatory a specific lighting effect. You can choose between

  • warm white,
  • neutral white or
  • daylight white

light colour. With dimmable LED bulbs or Smart Home lighting, you can also selectively adjust the light colour and dim the brightness according to your needs and mood. Warm white light exemplifies cosiness. If you use your conservatory as a study during the evening hours, a daylight white lamp is best, as this light is said to promote concentration.

Ceiling Fans for the Conservatory

Did you know how versatile a ceiling fan is? Most people associate it with hot summer days, when it provides pleasant cooling. But you can also use a ceiling fan as ceiling lighting, because many models are equipped with a light. With the right bulb, they provide you with light in your oasis of well-being in the evening hours.

Another advantage: a ceiling fan in winter mode can help you save on heating costs. While your conservatory gets plenty of sunshine in summer, it needs to be heated particularly well in winter because of the cool temperatures and sparse light. A ceiling fan running to the left or backwards ensures even heat distribution and thus helps to prevent cold feet.

Ceiling and Wall lighting: Matching your Conservatory Style

The world of lamps and luminaires is very versatile - which is a good thing! Because you can also try out different styles and trends with your conservatory lighting.

With ceiling lights and wall lights in country house style, you can transform your conservatory into an English tea room. Vintage and retro lamps lend a reading corner or a study the necessary nostalgic charm and let creativity flow. But the boho style and thus lamps made of bamboo or rattan also look good in your green oasis of well-being - especially if you like it very natural and have lots of plants around you.

If you use the conservatory as a dining room with your family and like to invite guests, then pendant luminaires and pendant lights are a good choice! They are usually large enough to illuminate the entire dining table and - depending on the model - can be adjusted in height so that you can keep an eye on each other while eating and chatting.

Additional Light Sources: Floor Lamps, Table Lamps and More

If you are unable to upgrade your conservatory or patio roof lighting and install conservatory lighting on the ceiling, floor lamps and table lamps make good sources of light. They can be placed near a power socket and do not require professional assembly and installation.

Uplighters are not named without reason, because they emit so much light that they can illuminate - or light up - an entire room. Conveniently, most uplighters have a reading arm and are therefore ideal for designing your reading corner. Of course, a table lamp can also be used as a reading light, but it is also a decorative eye-catcher that can be wonderfully integrated into the furnishings and used to illuminate your conservatory.

If you want to set small decorative accents, use fairy lights - they emit less light, but are always an atmospheric highlight.

We recommend that you generally use several light sources and combine them to illuminate specific areas.

Outdoor Lighting for the Conservatory

All warm and cozy inside, gloomy outside? It doesn't have to be! You can also provide pleasant, inviting lighting for the outside of your conservatory. Path luminaires such as base luminaires and bollard luminaires are easy to install in the garden and contribute not only to safety but also to an atmospheric ambience. Equipped with a motion detector, they only light up when their use is required.

Outdoor wall lights are also an option to provide light and a safe step on dark days, the only difference being that they put the focus on your house instead of your garden.

Design your garden with decorative outdoor lighting, place ground spots, path lights and tree lights in such a way that the boundaries between your conservatory and your outdoor area merge and are visually extended by a unified, well thought-out lighting concept: This makes your conservatory look even more spacious.

Putting your Conservatory in the Right Light

With sophisticated lighting ideas, you can create your own personal place of well-being in your conservatory. An elegant uplighter or a beautifully shaped floor lamp not only look great, they also provide enough brightness to illuminate even a large room. In the evening, these lamps and uplighters can ideally be dimmed to create a cosy evening atmosphere, even if it is uncomfortable outside. They can be supplemented by decorative table lamps, the ideal light source for cosy evenings spent reading or playing games. Depending on the nature of the building, wall luminaires, ceiling spots and swivelling spotlights can also be a very good choice for a conservatory.
